Just got engaged, now what?
Congratulations, you are engaged! Now, take a moment to let it all sink in and enjoy your new status. I know how you must be feeling right now, looking at the ring on your hand and sometimes feeling like it is a dream. The best part? It’s not.
So, after all the excitement about the engagement, the wedding planning begins. I know It can be stressful, that’s why I broke down the initial process into 5 easy steps for you.
1. Share the engagement news
Go ahead and pick up the phone and share the news with your family and friends. They will be very happy to hear the big announcement and celebrate with you.
2. Set a wedding budget
It is a hard topic to talk about, but every detail is important. You are probably asking yourselves, who is paying what for the wedding? So, determining the financial source(s) for the wedding and what your budget is is the very beginning of the planning process, and it will help you set expectations and make you feel more empowered when making decisions.
3. Create your guest list
The wedding guest list can be a headache sometimes. I recommend my couples start by writing down family members, wedding party, closest friends, special guests. You will also have to determine if you want to have children at the wedding or not. This can at least give you a starting point.
4. Search for wedding planning inspiration
Along with all of the excitement, the creative process begins. You and your new fiancé will start looking at inspirational wedding pictures and putting ideas together for the big day. A nice way to have a feel of the wedding's overall look is to create a board on Pinterest. Here, you can add the colors (check out our post on how to select your wedding color palette for some ideas), flowers, textures and styles that you like. Ultimately, the wedding is a reflection of your personal style.
5. Choose a wedding date
As important as the other steps are, narrowing down a few wedding dates will help you when contacting vendors. I am sure that with the help of your professional wedding planner you will be able to book the right venue and find right vendors that fit your budget and style. I want to tell you that it is okay to have lots of questions. It is all part of the process and I welcome you to embrace it.
